The Klik of the Month Klub meets right here on this very website on the third Saturday of every month at 4pm Pacific Time (taking daylight savings into consideration) for a two hour Klik & Play Showdown. Everyone who participates gets two hours to create something from scratch in Klik & Play. Abusing the stock objects is encouraged. If you really loathe Klik & Play you can use whatever game development platform you want. Two hours is a pretty tight time limit, though, so choose wisely!

Klik & Play is absolutely free to download, and learning it takes minutes, so everyone can get in on the action. Want to talk to your fellow Klikwreckers? Join us on IRC -- server irc.freenode.net, channel #glorioustrainwrecks. Join the mayhem!

For more information, check out the KotM N00B FAQ.

Holy fucking shit. Part of

Holy fucking shit. Part of one of my favorite Mystery Hunt puzzles is getting made into an entire Mystery Hunt! I can't wait until it ends so I can read the puzzle archive for myself.

You know, for a while, I've thought about making a game like Professor Layton (although I actually got the idea long before anyone had even heard of that game) with Mystery Hunt puzzles instead of logic puzzles. Perhaps it could have the same structure, with sets of puzzle answers being involved in all-new metapuzzles.

And on that note, I've also had an idea for an adventure game - perhaps an entire series of them - based upon the University of Chicago Scavenger Hunt, with the player trying to complete items, al of which are optional, in order to rack up points at Judgement (which the player can trigger at any time). It would, of course, be possible to put items and bonus points into unwinnable states, and there would of course be multiple endings depending of how many points were won.

Hopefully I'll do a good enough job with it, though.

Relax, friend! For the Klik of the Month Klub, "a good enough job" means showing up, attempting to make something resembling a game, and having a good time doing it.

pre-mystery hunt suckening

I wanted to do a trainwreck before the MIT Mystery Hunt lest I be too burnt out and distracted to do either at all.

So i got all inspired by this Youtube Video of Tennis for Two
It had a cooler kinetic sense than I realized! A little bit like Wii Sports tennis in how the movement of the player is kind of assumed, but you want to get the angle right.
I was thinking about doing a processing version of that. But then I found a Tennis for Two simulator... I was thinking it should do the phosphor trails, and that the arrow sticking out of the dot was kind of cheaty, and that maybe it should use the mouse scroll wheel, and maybe a more "gamey" one player mode, but it was good enough that I decided I need to take it to the next level and do Tennis For Two 3D (oh, and I was startled to realize I had totally forgotten it was our own SpindlyQ/ApM who made the real simulator!)

3/4 of the way through, irritating glitches in the bounce code (couldn't get it to a stable state, though then again, maybe if I made it not bounce forever that wouldn't be an issue...) and just a lack of soul made me realize that it wasn't very rhinocerous, so I didn't even do the "bounce against the net code", never mind the thinking to make it a game, where the ball could fall off the table into nothingness.

So I decided to take what I had and make a stupid 3d paintish program, bleh+sketch = betch, in the last half hour:

Hold the mouse to "erase", press space to clear the screen

and those are my trainwrecks.. hopefully the mystery hunt will go better than these

Well, I do.

Though I feel so useless at the MIT Mystery Hunt I might make a 3rd crappy thing during that time. (I am just not a good puzzle solver)

It's a bummer to miss the real time though... both because of the camaraderie and hints on IRC during the programming, and then the hour after, talking about other people's stuff while it's still poppin' fresh.

When I do miss the event, I try to come back in to the message board and try everything. Also I leave feedback... I know I'm a comment whore, so I figure it's worthwhile to give some thoughts to people about their babies.

The cute realm is my favourite. Although if you took out the giant trees and kept track of time to the millisecond, the haystack realm would be a pretty decent game. (See CrazyGame.)

FYI: You forgot to actually code the death event in the Jacking The Box Realm. Otherwise, an outstanding first showing.

dodgeball

a two-player game.
player one uses W and S.
player two uses the UP and DOWN arrow keys.
contact between the front of your paddle and the ball causes you to lose a point.
first player to lose all points is the LOSER.

note: the ball will bounce off the back of your paddle.
bonus note: the ball's speed increases every time it bounces.

dinosaur vs angel cannon

shit it took me some time to figure stuff out..

this is multiplayer .. kinda,
wasd + shift controls dino,
mouse controls angel cannon

if dino reaches right side of screen he wins and he loses if he falls off the zeppelins

edit: so i opened it up again and mad it into something at least halfway playable
controls change from wasd+shift to arrowkeys+strg and dino has to take the rocket now!
