Two of my favorite games here come to mind when seeing this: No Bones and we all come together to celebrate the birth of jesus christ. In the case of No Bones, the jellified body is the key component to obstacles the player must overcome, while in we all come together..., there are timed sequences that enter a monochrome landscape with all these ragdoll bodies bumping and floundering around with one another.
Yes: it's instantly familiar, and definitely memorable.
ah i see. i wasn't sure if you meant the janky cg bodies aesthetic or the caps-lock helvetica / bold colours / soul music aesthetic, haha. i don't know what either might be called.
i agree with let-off-studios about it being memorable / compelling. uncanny valley nostalgia or something. it seems to have become very popular in 'mainstream' video art over the last few years, i associate it with Jon Rafman https://vimeo.com/232458557 and Ed Atkins https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EkqVWXBVOQ.
i like Cool 3D World too https://twitter.com/cool3dworld
All of these are examples. I'm relieved to find out I like some of this stuff and would-rather-not on other demonstrations of the aesthetic. That feeling of having taste within the genre legitimizes it for me. It becomes something more than a novel gimmick.
I seem to like Ed Atkins a lot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yY17qZLMUcg
