update: EVENT BEGIN!!
altogether 10 people signed up which makes 5 beautiful pairs and thus 5 beautiful games, in time.
For the 4 people who didn't explicitly choose a collaborator i couldn't see any obvious matches so i chose randomly, i hope that's ok. so we have:
sergio <----?-----> nilson
mr.a <----?-----> let-off studios
sylvie <----------> thesycophant
everythingstaken <----------> mno
karen <----------> jacqueline
Have fun and good luck!
If anyone missed the start date you are still very welcome to take part, just leave a comment.

Original description:
it is very similar to tennis, except instead of enemies you are friends and instead of a ball you use a game or game-adjacent object.
in more detail:
1. find a collaborator (*)
2. with your collaborator decide on a format (flickgame, bitsy, unity project, polystyrene, etc). Discuss time constraints (**), boundaries (***) or any adjustments to the default rules that you would like to have in place.
3. decide who will make the first turn. this can be by coin toss, duel, or more imaginative procedure
4. someone makes the first turn.
5. other person makes some modifications (****) to these files and sends them back. Don't talk about what you've done!
6. repeat this back-and-forth until you both decide the game is finished or a predetermined time-limit is reached.
7. put the game on glorioustrainwrecks.com so that we can play it :)
(*) Easiest way to do find a collaborator is to post a comment on this event. Maybe mention what kind of tools or formats you would be interested in working with. If you have strong preferences about duration of turns or the overall process, or about anything else, mention that too. I will try to assign pairings based on tools/preferences, or randomly otherwise. Also feel free to figure out your own pairing or sign up with somebody you already know.
(**) Let's say as a default, each turn should be about 1-2 weeks, and the overall time limit is 6 months.
Feel free to disregard these limits and choose your own. If you want to do the whole game in a lightning week of overnight turns, go for it. Multi-generational familial collaborations spanning centuries are also permissible. You should figure out what works for the two of you before beginning.
(***) Probably best to avoid anything illegal, explicitly sexual, or otherwise confronting, unless you are both ok with it. You are strongly encouraged to discuss beforehand what kind of content you are or aren't comfortable with. And obviously when sharing on GT or elsewhere be mindful of your audience.
(****) in my mind this modification can be anything you choose - add things, delete things, arrange things as you like. deleting the entire project is fair game if you feel it is right. but - if you don't agree with me on this, figure out constraints with your collaborator before you begin.
in my opinion it's best to avoid discussing the changes you are making. Try to communicate through the changes you make instead.
Technical questions ('how do i open this type of file?' etc) are good and encouraged.
For sending the project folder back and forth, just zipping it up and sending over email has worked for me in the past. Or use google drive or github if you're into that kind of thing. Should be even easier with flickgame and other web-based tools.
very importantly please be kind and respectful to one another!!

I think I want to try this!
Notes for collaborators:
- I mainly use Game Maker Studio (1.4 and 2 are both fine) but I also have some experience with Unity. I pick things up pretty quickly, so if you like to use another engine I will probably be fine with learning it as I don't have to pay for anything.
- I have made a lot of Bitsy games recently, so I don't think I want to use Bitsy for this.
- I only know how to make 2D games. It's fine if you add 3D stuff but I probably won't be able to contribute models or levels or anything to any 3D parts.
- I want to make a "medium-sized" game.
!!
looks like mno and i r teaming up because we both use Clickteam so much
8-)
Hi! I think I'm game for
Hi! I think I'm game for this! I use Game Maker Studio 1.4. Like, exclusively (well, I could use Game Maker 8.1 if necessary). And only in 2D. I'm looking for a project that's not too short, but nothing too long or complex either.
Oh, hey, I think sylvie and
Oh, hey, I think sylvie and I are going to be collaborating!
Yeah!
Yeah!
I think I'd most like to
I think I'd most like to collaborate on some kind of comic or other written and drawn work, provisionally web-based, maybe not even interactive.
Alternatively, I can use The Games Factory or Multimedia Fusion 2. Game Maker Studio Studio 1.4.9999 is also an option. I don't think I'm that familiar with the quirks and inner workings of these tools, nor do I tend to implement game logic in a sensible way, which may make building on my work difficult. I've also made collaborative flickgames before, but don't particularly feel like doing this again at the moment.
I work full time and want whatever we work on to at least feel like it's not a big commitment.
I would be down to
I would be down to collaborate on a written work (Twine might be interesting, too) - also work full time ~
Would be cool to do an RPG Maker game too if anyone is interested (just sayinnn)
: )
A Wild Old Fart Appears
I actually think that collaboration of this kind is vitally important to spaces like Glorious Trainwrecks (and I dare say the Internet in general). I'm in.
Being picky is one of my dubious virtues, as is being contrarian, but I'm also patient, I ask good questions, and I can contribute in good faith to a shared project. Most importantly, I can commit to finishing a project within a collaboration once I join it. You can count on me.
In the past, I have used Clickteam Fusion (I have the Dev version and many years of casual experience), Flickgame (pretty darn good at it), and Twine (as a novice) to make games. I also design tabletop board games and card games (several years of experience). Recent acquisitions with which I would consider experimenting with include Leadwerks, TyranoBuilder, and GameGuru (I'm a straight novice in all these).
i forgot to comment til now
i forgot to comment til now but i will be collaborating with jacqueline!!
Lazybones
I'm interested in a small-ish / low-effort collab or two.
Likely won't be able to start participating until July, but this runs until November and deadlines are thoroughly not enforced, so no problems there?
I'm happy working with Unity, "web-tech," or browser-based interactive-thing-makers. Also happy to do something mostly/strictly visual or musical.
Structural nubs that could be fun to grow or steal (go ahead you beautiful stranger) :
- a city
- a hypertext maze
- a visual work in sequence of edits
- an interactive thing that ends after 6, 7, or 8 minutes exactly but is otherwise difficult to predict
- public-domain audiobook excerpts -> music/ambient noise track(s) (also public domain)
- one or more folders of sundry platform-agnostic files
- video catalogue of witnessed hair
Things I'm not into right now:
- letting players do deliberate violence
- writing coherently
Have a pleasant day.

Oops, I already sent an email to nilson about working together since he replied to my comment. Maybe he, let-off, mr. a & I could like… play doubles? An overloaded twine game with embedded games made using other programs at its junctures sounds like a project too foolish and overcomplicated to fail!
okk let me know if you
okk let me know if you figure it out and i'll change the event not that it really matters
Hi! I think I want to try
Hi! I think I want to try this? It's a really neat idea!
I mainly use Game Maker Studio 1.4, but also Clickteam Fusion 2.5 and RPG Maker 2003 and VX Ace.
I can only do 2d things, sorry. And I'm kinda not a great artist and usually stick to simple pixelly retro-styled graphics.
I'd love to make something cute!
I'm already working with
I'm already working with thesycophant, but maybe you could join us if you can't find a partner by the time we're done the first trade? We're doing a GMS 1.4 project, and I like cute stuff (like your avatar) so it feels like it would be a good fit. Not sure if a three-way exchange is in the spirit of the event, but it would be sad to leave someone out.
Thank you, that's so sweet
Thank you, that's so sweet but I don't want to intrude. ^^; It's my own fault for being late, I'll just wait and see if anyone else wants to team up.
Signing in to say you would
Signing in to say you would be welcome to join us if it's too late to join somewhere else! I'm hoping to have my first pass at it done this weekend!
Thank you both so much but
Thank you both so much but I'd honestly feel like I'm imposing and ruining this event for you two. I'll just sit this one out and join if there's ever a next time!
I'm a huge fan of both of your games, looking forward to seeing what you two will come up with. ^^
As an unrelated bystander, I
As an unrelated bystander, I was really looking forward to this three way collaboration! I don't think your participation could possibly be imposing or ruining. But feelings like that can be hard to move past…
Going to totally re-support
Going to totally re-support this, though if you feel uncomfortable--no pressure! The feeling is mutual as to being a fan of your games. I think about Super Froggo Jump from time to time! Your call. :)
Ahem.
Whoops. Wrong place.
