Phantasie

Lovely map...! Your game here reminds me of the real-world game Phantasie that I played on the C64 long, long ago. Although it was essentially a two-colour game dominated mostly by yellow, it had an expansive overworld spreading over a grid, just like yours does. Each square of terrain had at least one dungeon or ruin entrance, and I can immediately imagine the map you've created here has one of those dungeons or ruins on every square of its terrain, as well.

You've even included a whirlpool or vortex or something waaaaay out there in the ocean....! Really nice job here. :)

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!

It took me an entire afternoon to design it and add little details, I'm quite fond of it and I intend to turn it into a real game someday.
I'd never heard of Phantasie but I did a quick Google search and saw the screenshots, it really looks a lot like what I have done here.

In fact this comparison makes perfect sense because I was heavily inspired by a real indie RPG series called Realms Of Quest that was released for the VIC-20, the older brother of C64, so I made an effort to more or less replicate the look of a VIC-20 game.

It doesn't really have dungeons in each square, but each square has "something" different, which may include a dungeon, or other types of things like towns or events.

And about the vortex far to the southwest... it's a secret to everyone I guess lol
