Using TGF 2 Newgrounds Edition

markp0rter's picture

So I have started to use TGF 2 Newgrounds Edition. It can only export SWF files that only work if you upload them to Newgrounds.

Now the problem is: If I want to upload a game for klik of the month I need to upload a file but I won't have any.
I could only provide a link to the uploaded file on newgrounds.

Any solution to this problem? Just letting people post a link and upload a screenshot maybe?

just post the link and some

just post the link and some dummy text file with the link inside?

Could you upload the .gam?

I'd prefer this

I'd prefer this solution.

As I've mentioned before, the file upload requirement is to help guard against linkrot. The last thing I want is for people to upload to mediafire or whatever and have their stuff disappear. I have a strong commitment to preserving everyone's work.

That said, I also have a strong commitment to having people make their own choices about what they want done with their work; sadly I have not yet found a simple way to require that you either upload a file or set a link, or I would have set that up already. Keep bugging me about it, though; I'll figure it out someday.

Alright, fine, I wrote some

Alright, fine, I wrote some damn PHP and fixed it. Now when you post a game, you can put in a link to play your game online and/or upload it directly to the site.

I meant upload here.

I meant upload here.

You should upload the .gam

You should upload the .gam as well though, 'cause I think we can open that with TGF2 (Newgrounds Edition or otherwise), whereas the possibility that the game will be blammed as a Newgrounds submission exists.

That's what I

That's what I meant.

asfasfdasfsdf this isn't rocket science.

First of all if I submit

First of all if I submit anything it won't get blammed.I'm just too awesome really

Lol joke

If someone submits something we should just vote 5 on it so it stays.
I think people can play swf content just fine but I don't expect anyone to download tgf. 2 so they can open my silly mfa. That's too much to ask really.

It's so people here can play

It's so people here can play it in case the game does get blammed or lost in the future.

Stuff never gets lost on

Stuff never gets lost on newgrounds. I think there is still stuff online on it that's 8 years old or even older. The tgf newgrounds edition is more likely to disappear eventually than the actual flash content. The great thing is even silly Macs like the one I'm stuck with can play stuff without fiddling around with WINE. If we just all vote 5 stuff won't get blammed. Also basically if a file size is like 4 MB people will already rate it good assuming something " big " can't be shit.

But yeh just felt like pointing this out and I will see about this deal if I am ever going to submit a trainwreck. At the moment it's just silly blah blah and pointless stuff coming from my side.

I would love to form a newgrounds spam group anyways where we just convert our old knp stuff and spam the portal with it and little kids will be really confused about it and like wtf. That's been my plan for ages but I wanted to keep it a secret and submit something to newgrounds under the name of the spam club and then write something like " we should all do it " on her which I will do in the end if I submit stuff and BLAH

Anything I would say about

Anything I would say about Newgrounds' ability to keep files around forever, one could easily say about me. We're both random sites on the internet, and seriously, if you care about your keeping your shit around, fuck the cloud and keep your own copy that's under your control.

But if you want to keep a backup up here, that's cool with me, and I'll do my best to make sure it sticks around. I mean, I helped save Geocities; preservation of this kind of thing is something I'm interested in doing. But ultimately I'm just a dude with good intentions and a regular backup of the site to my PC at home. Do what you feel is right.
