Hey :)
I just made my first game. it's called gib, and it's at gib.thannymack.com
Unfortunately, I didn't realise that construct games don't really work offline. One thing I remember from playing EVERY GAME on the pirate kart is that they all worked online. Is this a requirement? Currently, I have a pop-up box stating that the game may not work properly offline, and a link leading to ib.thannymack.com. Is that acceptable? Can I submit the game to the next kart in its current form, or should I try to get to grips with titanium so I can maybe try to export it as a desktop app?
Thanks for your help!
Online versions are ok! Use
Online versions are ok! Use the "game link" field field of the game submission form and the Pirate Kart launcher will open up a browser. (Don't upload game files if you want the launcher to use the online version!)
Offline versions are slightly preferred because the launcher can detect when you close a game it launched but not a browser tab. There's probably something clever I could do here but I haven't yet figured out anything I am satisfied with.
lovely, I'll settle for that
lovely, I'll settle for that :) I'll submit it soon.
What do you think? is it train-wrecky enough? I spent more than 2 hours on it, but only cos it's my first game...
This is most definitely
This is most definitely trainwrecky enough!
Don't worry about whether your games are eligible or not! As long as it isn't malware and you're not claiming someone else's work as your own, I can't think of a reason we wouldn't want a game in the kart!
(well, maybe some dumb practical things like if the filesize was a Terabyte)
This is an interesting
This is an interesting question, which Mike is probably best-equipped to answer, since he's writing the launcher.
I think at GDC, we'll have an internet connection, so it should be okay. It would certainly be easier than building a webserver into the launcher. If you do decide to look into Titanium, I'd be very interested to hear about your experience!
This is a great concept.
This is a great concept. Loving the random secret GTA sprites.
thanks :) spoilerssssss!

spoilerssssss! heh
This was pretty neat since I
This was pretty neat since I played through Quake for the first time about a month ago (went ahead and bought myself that Super id Software Pack thing on Steam... man, what a steal).
Re: Offline mode - it should work in Firefox as long as you remember to include the necessary Javascript libraries. IIRC it doesn't work in Chrome or Chromium due to security reasons.
That's great - thanks so
That's great - thanks so much guys :) I think I like this community...
Yeah, I got it to work in firefox offline. But it ran quite slowly compared to Chrome online. Add to that the fact that people will probably open piratekart games in their own browser and just give up if it doesn't work first time (I certainly did, sorry to say) - and I think it's best if I just provide a link on the submission form.
GDC here I come!
