Anxiety dream: part 1

HeaderWithStuff.png
Game File (Mac):

Roughly 2 minutes long. Will exit abruptly at the end.

I spent very small amounts of time over the course of about 4 or 5 weeks building this. Which is quite different from how I normally make stuff.

There was supposed to be another part to it which I haven't got around to finishing off but I have all the assets lined up for. Something to give a bit more closure than way it currently comes to an unexpected halt. Whether I will ever get around to doing that though is another question.

All the assets were found for free on the unity asset store except the sky which came as part of the AllSky pack of 140 skyboxes for 10 bucks . The drone is a track my friend made a while ago and the running man audio is from youtube.

I love that the horses slow down as they get closer until they just start to creep in and suffocate you. It's horrifying in a good way.

Yeah, I really like how the horses close in on you, and how claustrophic and smothery that feels.

It's more... active (I guess) than my own experiences with anxiety, so that's interesting too.

Not sure about the eyeball at the end. What's the idea there?

The eyeball

Originally there was no eyeball and it was just supposed to transition to another stage after being enclosed by the darkness. I never made the other stage though so I put the eyeball thing in to signify an ending of sorts. Unfortunately slightly devoid of meaning.

Played it again and thought it was better the second time!

A couple things that occurred to me:

I find that having the cursor on screen is kind of annoying. Disabling it would make a big difference.

The eye at the end is kind of jarring now that I think about it. I think just having the game close, or quickly fade out would be all you need to signify an ending.

I'm definitely interested in seeing what you have planned to end the game, but the game doesn't feel like it's lacking anything at the moment.

Thanks very much. I spent an afternoon on my flat mate's PC a while back playing through all the games of yours mentioned in Chrissy and Clyde's podcast. They were very enjoyable.

I feel like this game was almost too abstract a representation of what I was going for. Which is, the idea of being chased and having only moderate amount of control. Taking out all controls feels like I've gone too far. The next thing I make, however long away that may be, will probably try and incorporate a little more interaction.

This is probably going to sound quite random written down. The idea for the latter part was to fade to black into another scene. Whereupon you're on the back of a 3D model for Falcor the luck dragon which I found online somehow, the music from Neverending story is playing and you're flying through some very nice looking 3D clouds I found on the asset store. Sort of a reward almost for making it through the stress of the earlier scene.
