A friend of mine is helping teach a game design course at uni. Last week, he briefly described to me one of the game ideas one of the game design teams threw out earlier in the semester. This game is a quick prototype based on a partial second-hand understanding of their rejected design, made in Klik & Play.

Welcome to GT’s sekret santa, the event where people make a list of things they like to see, and then those lists are randomly assigned to other participants to make a present for them.

Do you wanna participate? Here’s how it will go:

First, before DECEMBER 10TH you have to make and comment a list of things you would be interested in seeing in your present. Please keep in mind that your Santa may have a different skillset than what you’re expecting, and try to make your requests achievable by all sorts of people.

Then, after DECEMBER 10TH I’ll secretly send you a person’s list, and then you get to make them a present!! You’ll have a month to do it but it’s alright if you give your gift late, there’s no pressure.

A NEW TWIST: When you're commenting the list of things you would want, you should also include the amount of time you're planning to work on your gift. "I think I'm going to spend about 2 weeks on this present." It's just a guideline, of course, but I think it'll be helpful for everyone.

Along with the list, you’ll also be sent a link to one of the discord servers for the event. The person who you’re making a game for and the person who is making your game will not be in the same server as you, so you can share how your progress is going with some peers.

Maybe you’re interested, but this seems like a lot of commitment. Well, there are other roles available to keep this event running smoothly. You can sign up to be a Sekret Fairey , which means you get access to all of the servers and you can see how everyone’s doing. Or you can sign up to be a Backup Santa , which means you can jump in if someone can’t finish their gift. These roles don’t submit lists, so they can join at any time.

P.S., This is my first Klik & Play game.

The ZZT Blitzkrieg-a-thon! is coming up soon so I wiki'ed ZZT to find out more and found DreamZZT, which is a rebuild of the ZZT engine so it can work on modern systems, so you dont have to mess around with DOS emulators. I haven tried it yet but it seems pretty solid....

Another Paint Toy. Do a little scribble with the mouse. The worm "learns" it and does it over and over again.

I think there might be a 2 player game idea lurking in here, but I'm sad because doing my advent calendar has apparently tapped out my game making mojo.

A crazed, deranged social outcast, EffBee will probably bore you to death with his constant musings over Linux, KDE SC, and computing in general. In fact, if you were to have a conversation with him, you would probably want to kill him. Or destroy your eardrums. But he does make some pretty humorous trainwrecks!

EffBee has used Click products ever since 1999, and although he has gained a fair bit of knowledge with the various products, there's little of that to be found in his contributions toward the Pirate Kart. Not only that, but he hardly Clicks anymore, as he's moved on from creating games to agonizing over little details and eccentricities in the C++ programming language. Still, he can hardly resist making the occasional trainwreck now and then in Klik & Play or some other Click product.

All trainwrecks in this collection authored by EffBee contain 0% Yoshi (ha ha, bet you weren't expecting that).
