Recently Arthur "Podunkian" Lee posted some vitriol against your friend and mine, Terry Cavanagh. http://www.pigscene.com/?p=462
He made an assholish parody game of V^6, so naturally I made a game in response. Shit got serious. (Has a few in-jokes for the TIG's crowd.)
EDIT: You know I love you, right?

Sir!
Sir! Through responding to assholery with further assholery, have you not become that which you despise?

Hateblog
Reading pigscene had made me rethink my own hateblog. I guess these things seem rather shallow to the audience they're supposed to affect. Yes, there are some championed indie games that are not as impressive or as important as they are made out to be, but calling Terry's latest "artificially hard" ignores that artificial difficulty is one of the game's stated goals to overcome. Even just playing the demo twice is enough to prove to yourself that you will actually get better at the game, rather than suffering through an arbitrarily difficult set of controls that fights you through non-responsiveness.
what??? a knp game without
what??? a knp game without ironic midi music or the YEARGH.wav sample?

Hey there!
Hey there, fellow hateblogger! I'm curious as to your trolling goals. Did throwing up over self-conscious wistful games get too boring, so now you're seeking to aim your stream of bile at self-deprecating joke games? I don't know how well that's going to work. Would you rather that nobody made games? I don't know if that's a particularly noble goal. The best satire seeks to chide a target into self improvement. Are you so nihilist that you see any community as a thing to be torn down?
Good luck with the hateblogging, I know it's fun as hell.
edit: to add to my hateblogger cred, I'll link to a mean-spirited game insult I too made on the topic of masocore gaming.

a) let's both agree not to
a) let's both agree not to use the phrase hateblogging unless we are doing so without intending to have anyone ACTUALLY read what we're saying.
b) have you, like derek yu himself, become some sort of manchild, incapable of taking anything but the higher moral ground against something that is quite obviously a farcical/satirical view on the indie games community? you say yourself that the best satire seeks to chide a target into self-improvement. if you think that terry himself is the sole target in this oh transgressive of satires then you are wrong.
VX is not strictly a satire on VVVVVV. VX is a satire on the indie games community, and i won't, for the sake of keeping things from getting too inflammatory, get into it any more than that.
if you talk to anyone who deals with me regularly on a personal basis (paul eres, cactus, jw, etc.) they'll all tell you -- the person i play on PIGscene is very different to the one i am normally for the most part (in terms of how i act). however, the general opinions of the character are very consistent to my own. i have an intense dissatisfaction with the COMMUNITY, so intense that i thought why even bother anymore. the idea behind XV was an idea that i had i had first completed the game a month or two ago -- it was only now that i had the means to actualize the joke, which is why i did. if the joke seems dated, it's because it is, and i made it fully knowing that the ship has probably sailed. but fuck me if the community hasn't proven the joke still relevant.

Just so you guys all are
Just so you guys all are aware, both Arthur Lee and Terry Cavanagh have made games with us.
Vitriolic personal attacks don't have a place on this site. See this post for a more detailed outline of what I consider appropriate for Glorious Trainwrecks. Please find somewhere else to host this.
memories
Haha funny how that came from a game I nearly made....
edit: Would it be okay if we take it to the private messaging? It will lack the sting of publicly shaming each other, but there's still a few things I'd like to discuss.
i don't really wish to
i don't really wish to discuss anything with you, so please don't bother, thank you.
Really?
You did just a moment ago. When you replied to my first comment. Why the sudden change of heart? I think you'd find it most rewarding.
re: removing the game
@snapman -- please do everyone a favor a drop it. i was speaking merely in defense and in response to the questions you directly raised towards me. my opinion is that you just don't 'get it', and that no amount of talking back and forth about it will convince you or me either way. so save yourself the trouble and drop it.
as for the game, i totally don't mind it all, i know it was done in good fun, and i'm almost positive that dustin knows i would find it funny as well (it does, after all, resemble radix's garfield adventure, which he created in a short mini-knp game making thing that he and i did together). i can't speak on behalf of spindley or how the game breaks the guidelines, etc., but i don't mind the game being hosted here.
Garfeild Adventure was
Garfeild Adventure was indeed the basis for it, but if Spindly doesn't want it up I won't put it up. And I'm serious about that guest review proposal of Action 52 as the progenitor of the art game genre I posted on your site, if you want I'll totally do it.
Thanks for the post; I'm
Thanks for the post; I'm glad to know that the game was made in good faith and that you and Dustin shared a chuckle. I never had a problem with the game's existence; I simply thought and still think that Glorious Trainwrecks is an inappropriate venue for it.
I'm not out to stop people from being dicks to each other on the internet -- Lord knows that's impossible. I just don't want people to be dicks to each other here. Without a lot of insider knowledge of PIGScene/TIGSource/your relationship with Dustin/etc, it looks simply like the game is an extended "fuck this loser for hating on Terry Cavanagh, look at him having gay sex", which is not something that I think this section of the internet particularly needs.
Duly noted, I took the game
Duly noted, I took the game down. Sorry that this joke of a joke got out of hand. When I get home I shall instead host a game where all indies live in peace. I'll try to find a midi version of 'Imagine' even.
Augh no you got drama llamas
Augh no you got drama llamas in our Glorious Trainwrecks! D:
Have you tried baking Arthur a cake and icing it with the phrase "I respectfully take issue with your implicit ripping on my good friend on your snarky interblog, please pick some less awesome targets into which to channel your ire"
maybe that would be equally efficacious
albeit difficult to ice
(and kinda expensive)
All I'm saying here is GIVE PEACE A CHANCE
construction not destruction
If somebody really had a beef with the indie games community at large, they should just go and make a game that doesn't hit any of the point markers on the Indie Games Bingo Card. Creation is a better criticism than disparaging diatribes.
I'm not sure. Personally I'm
I'm not sure. Personally I'm not that big of a fan of snark stylings, but surely one of the things about being 'indie' is that you shouldn't have to do anything a certain way just because someone tells you to? It takes all sorts; destructive criticism done well is also a skill; Mr. Podunkian is pretty good at the destructive criticism.
Anyway this seems to have been resolved to a good level of satisfaction now so I reck'n we just make up and go back to playing nice n' awesome
hey everyone let's just make
hey everyone let's just make games and not care what people think okay
