The rules say
"All game code and content must be created within the 48 hours. "
and further :
"Content is your non-code assets like art, sound, maps or music."
JAM might be ok
I find LD rules unclear. They say you must make all the game within the 48hours...then they say you can use public libraries...but public libraries can be code aren't they? When coding I'm most of the time copy/pasting and adapting CSS / PHP / Javascript / Python that I find publicly available on the web... So is that ok?
In Ludum Dare, you have the compo which is 48-hours long and has stricter rules on what is allowed, and the jam which is 72-hours and more relaxed. If you feel that the compo is too restricting, feel free to try the jam instead.
If it's for the compo you'll want to make a game that can be played by as many people as you can, which basically rules out KnP unless you import into a newer program and use that to export.

Pre-made assets are against
Pre-made assets are against the rules for Ludum Dare, but they don't really care what tools you use. So if you avoid klip art, KnP should be fine.
