I decided to make a thingy so that you can make a game look like it was made in unity.
Currently it's tuned to knytt stories, but as long as you know how to launch your game using commandline, you can use this tool.
This tool uses pyg.exe (https://www.pygame.org/project-pyg.exe-2830-4560.html) and Noyb's KSCommandline (https://www.glorioustrainwrecks.com/node/2162#comment-9674), so credit to those guys for that.
You can delete start.bat if you want to, but make sure that projectname.exe works first I guess. Otherwise get yourself some bat to exe conversion and use that on start.bat. Projectname.exe asks for administrator access, but it doesn't have to, my bad.
The thing is written in python, so python proficiency will help, but you should be able to figure out how to get it to work with enough fiddling. You should probably know that strings in python are either between two quotes or two single quotes.
Open main.py to see most of the code. I've put comments on the lines that I'm guessing you'll want to use.
The first comment says "####NAME OF THE DATA FOLDER" , so if you change the name of the folder from projectname_Data to something else, you should change the thing that says /projectname_Data to /something else.
The second one says "####CHANGE TO THE SIZE OF THE OUTPUT THING YOU'RE TRYING TO LAUNCH". It's less jarring if the size of the splash screen is the same as the size of your game's window, so the option to change it is there. Currently the size is tuned to knytt stories size, so if your game is in knytt stories, then you don't need to change it.
The third one says "####THIS IS THE THING THAT APPEARS AT THE TOP OF THE UNITY SPLASH WINDOW". I've left that blank, but you can put your game's name there if it's more realistic.
The fourth one says "####FIDDLE WITH THIS UNTIL IT WORKS". I realize this isn't a useful comment, but that's how I did it. Consider reading the documentation for KSCommandline and python's subprocess module. If you're doing a KS game, just change the part after LevelBin to whatever your knytt.bin is called. If you're doing an exe, just replace the whole string with the name of the executable. If that doesn't work, try changing the thing that says shell=True to shell=False. If THAT doesn't work, fiddle with it.
Contact me if you are having issues, although I might not be able to help. I'm TheCakeFlavor#4666 on discord, but if I don't exist there or here anymore, try my email at .
You can use this to participate in unity contests without having to use unity! they will definitely catch you, this isn't that subtle.
For this St. Patrick's Day I thought I'd make a tiny Knytt Story in celebration of the holiday. It's very short, only 4 screens big, and there's no ending, either. Still, I hope you enjoy it, in this season of vaguely green-themed cheer and good will.
(Sergio, I'm working on that thing, okay?)
I ran into a bit of a mental block on this big level I'm working on, so I finished up a level I started a couple days ago. It's called Climbing Mount Shepard. and it's pretty short, so it won't take long to reach the end... or will it? Tileset is Vestiges 2 by Sergio Cornaga.
Here is a short level I made while I was working on a larger one. Basically it's a dark maze implemented in Knytt Stories. Very short, as I didn't think I could maintain this kind of thing over a long level. Has a few secrets, including one that might be rather hard to get. (If you get too frustrated with it, you have my permission to just look it up in the editor.)
Music is "Evening Fall (Piano)" by Kevin "incompetech" MacLeod. (Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0

I donated a custom Knytt Stories level to Spring Thing this year, and now, a few months after the comp finished, the level is done. Special thanks to B Minus Seven for picking the prize!
Anyway, At the Zoo is about Juni searching for her friends at, well, the zoo. It's a pretty short piece (only twenty screens) and there are no challenging bits. Instead it's focused around atmosphere and little overheard snatches of dialogue. Give it a try, I bet you'll like it!
(Music is a shortened version of this track.)
So here's a tiny Knytt Stories level I just finished today. It's called House Key and it's a gloomy little number. Won't take long to play; just remember that you can enter doors by pressing down!
So here's a new Knytt Stories level for the people who play that game. It's called A Visit to Grandmother's, and you can guess the plot from the title. It's built around a tune from Two Headed Dino by Ben Bartlett (the tune is, I mean), but I added a short track by Incompetech to the beginning to keep it from being too repetitive. I hope you guys like it!
Waiting in the Rain is a short (about five screens or so) Knytt Story based on a song by Lee Rosevere called Waiting in the Rain. It's about getting to a friend's place in time for dinner, and also the friendship between two women. I hope you like it.
Hey guys! It's been a while. I sorta lost my game-making mojo this month, but I still managed to finish up a pretty short Knytt Stories level. It's called The Star Festival, and it's about a Yuletide Knytt festival suspiciously similar to Christmas. It was originally made for a level competition on the Nifflas forums, but I ran way late with it. No screenshots because I'm feeling lazy.
ALSO: I submitted a game to the 7th Annual New Years Mini-comp, called You Have to Put the Baby New Year in the Champagne Bottle. It's pretty much what you would expect. Hope to see you guys again soon!
Healy has a habit of uploading games for us on her birthday here, but I've turned the tables on her! As far as I can tell she hasn't seen this Knytt Stories level yet, but I figured there might be other people here interested in checking it out.
